Project Introduction
MIC Projects proudly delivered the construction of Sense of Self, one of Melbourne’s most celebrated wellness destinations, located within a converted warehouse in the heart of Collingwood. Designed as an immersive and inclusive bathhouse experience, the project reimagines the traditional industrial shell as a sanctuary for restoration, connection and ritual.
Working closely with the design team, MIC Projects brought to life a highly detailed environment where architecture, materiality and atmosphere are inseparable. The build incorporates a sophisticated mix of custom finishes, curved forms, natural stone, textured renders, bespoke joinery, feature planting and specialist wet-area construction. At its centre sits a magnesium mineral bath, complemented by a Finnish sauna, Hammam steam room, cold plunge and landscaped courtyard, all seamlessly integrated within the existing warehouse structure.
Executing the vision required meticulous coordination of complex services, waterproofing systems, thermal environments and finely crafted architectural details. The result is a space that feels both timeless and deeply sensory, balancing the raw character of the original building with a warm palette inspired by Mediterranean and global bathing traditions.
Sense of Self stands as a benchmark project for MIC Projects, demonstrating our ability to deliver architecturally ambitious environments where design integrity, technical execution and craftsmanship are held to the highest standard. The finished space is a testament to the power of collaboration between designer and builder, transforming an industrial warehouse into an award-worthy wellness destination that has helped redefine the contemporary bathhouse experience in Australia.
