Uncle, St Kilda

"As a first time business owner, I found the whole building process as daunting as it was exciting. There were also vast amounts of money at stake which was a little terrifying to tell the truth. One of the best decisions that we made in the whole process was to appoint Tom Walker, MIC projects as our builder. I knew from the beginning that i had chosen the right guy. Tom is equal parts awesome human being and talented individual and i am happy that he entered my life when he did.

My experience was very positive as we had a decent sized project and a modest budget. We always knew that it was going to be tight but Tom fought hard for every dollar. He obviously values good people as well as his boys had a fantastic work ethic and great humour, a great way to get through a stressful situation. Tom’s budget was well thought out and he reported to me often on our timeline and how our budget was tracking. His attention to detail is a strong point and it is in these details that make the end result so fantastic. I wish him the best of luck in all endeavours and am happy to provide him with this glowing endorsement."

About

We had a blank canvas, big ideas and a moderate budget to begin with and it was just the challenge we were looking for! After initial discussions with owner Rene Spence, we decided to use a combination of complementary materials which, once completed, would create an unforgettable visual dialogue that would enhance any dining experience.

These materials included solid steel bar tops, yellow stringy bark, external banquettes, feature string walls, raw terracotta pipe and a beautiful Oregon post and beam construction built using traditional Japanese methods, Uncle has them all!

The finished product is such an eclectic blend of different textures and finishes that work so well together. We are very proud of this one and love dropping in for a drink and a sensational meal. Don’t forget to try the “bobs ya” cocktail – it’s great and famously named by our MIC crew!
