About
With a brief to “make it look 100 years old”, we took on the challenge to marry our dedication to quality products and fine execution with our skill in materiality treatments.
We finessed patina finishes on the major steel components, perfected ageing techniques on timber elements and had a ball working with sourced treasures including recycled doors, bricks, tiles and salvaged lighting. It is 21st century Melbourne though, so a flash of luxe Carrara marble, cool-again wire cast and reeded glass and textured white tiles keeps it contemporary, not kitsch.
This warmly welcoming craft brewery is a world of its own, being a neighbourhood local, top-shelf restaurant and cubby house all at once, and is the result of a massive overhaul. Once a bare concrete-floored, white-walled warehouse, and though a vast 1500sqm, its character is now warm, inviting and even cosy, thanks to cleverly delineated spaces. Moody banquettes, central free-standing, custom wood-burning fireplaces, an internal courtyard with retractable roof, and of course that cubby, means there’s somewhere for everyone.
Thank you to the Stomping Grounding lads and team of designers committed to extensive detail – this project was a whole lot of fun and one we’re really proud of.
This baby took out gold in the 2017 Melbourne Design Awards.
